Due to heavy competition of smartphone makers such as Samsung and Nokia, Blackberry has decided to increase their footprint to 160 cities in India with more new devices and latest operating system 10. Currently, Blackberry maker is available in 80 cities of India. In India RIM started its operation in 2004 and has 4000 retail points over 80 cities. It has 3 national distributors such as Redington India, Brightpoint India and Ingram Inc. In india the portfolio includes the curve, touch, bold series and also selling CDMA smart phones like Blackberry curve 8530, Blackberry Tour 9630, BlackBerry Style 9670 and BlackBerry Curve 9350. RIM already shipped approximately 150,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets and around 14.1 million BlackBerry smartphones. At the same time, its subscribers also grew up to nearly 75 million, so 35% over year.
The Dutt said that, blackberry’s new OS 10 would be available from the second half of 2012. He also said that, if there is demand on new blackberry the company will setup the manufacture base in India. The ex- Samsung India leader, who joined RIM from HP India, is also excited about the BlackBerry brand.
Blackberry devices are popular because of Blackberry Messenger service and we will continue to launch new devices. BlackBerry is more popular on their BlackBerry Messenger service. We would continue to bring out newer devices. The wide areas of spotlight are innovation and customer satisfaction.
